The iconic Sydney Opera House took its inspiration from an orange.
Great ideas do not need to feel like a miracle or gift from the divine.
Velcro was inspired when a Swiss engineer realised that the tiny hooks of the cockleburs were stuck on his pants and his dog's fur and wondered how they attached themselves. Under the microscope's scrutiny, he observed the hooks engaging the loops in the fabric of his pants.
Nike's founder invented the now-iconic soles in a waffle iron over breakfast. The solution came over breakfast when he realised that the depressions in the form of iron used to make waffles, if inverted, could be an excellent mould for his new running shoe.
And, an orange inspired the famous Sydney Opera House. The architect realised that all the needed shapes could look different but curve the same, like an orange peeled into pieces.
Sometimes, it does not require genius; it simply requires being more observant of the mundane to see further than what is in front of you.
