The hydraulic engineering beauty of the Pimburaththewa Tank spillway in Sri Lanka. The triangular shape of the overflow allows for a longer effective overflow length in a smaller space—imagine taking the end of the zig-zag overflow and stretching it out straight, and then you see how long your overflow actually is.

This impressive structure was designed for water storage and irrigation, highlighting the sophisticated hydraulic systems developed in the region.
It is also one of the most trending destinations in Sri Lanka and is popular among the locals as a bathing place. Beautiful views of the lush green forests in the Polonnaruwa district surround the lake.
I am disappointed in myself for not visiting this structure when I was in Sri Lanka. But, it's on my list now for a next visit.
